Tuesday Night OLists Happy Hour: Paleo Food Discoveries

I just realized that it's Tuesday, which means tonight is OList Happy Hour on Twitter.  I've spent the day running all around the county (actually 2 counties, skillfully avoiding having to drive all the way to Knoxville just to have one piece of steel cut, but I digress) for tasks related to the house I'm building in Tennessee.

Last week I realized that one of the most active of the OLists has yet to be represented on the Happy Hour Menu, and that OList would be none other than OEvolve.  OEvolve has a special place in my heart since it was the first of the OLists to which I subscribed.  I also think it's the one from which I get the most practical advice.

I have been eating a paleo diet for nearly a year.  Among the benefits have been increased energy, increased muscle mass (for which my coincidental adoption of a regular gym routine of heavy lifting 4-6 days a week should also be credited) and just a generally light, lean healthful feeling that I didn't have before.

The most amazing thing about eating paleo, for me, is that you can eat mostly meat (for me, heavy on the beef), loads of animal fats, and also some veggies, and you end up feeling amazingly light and lean.  The key is to drop the grains (including oils derived from grains) and sugars from your diet, as well as anything processed or prepared.  Those things are what is killing most of the people around you.  For more info on eating paleo, check out the website Modern Paleo, which has tons of useful links, info, and food ideas.

So for Happy Hour tonight, we are discussing paleo eating and what you enjoy about it.

Here's tonight's menu:

Appetizer:  What have been your favorite new food discoveries since adopting a paleo diet?  Where there any surprises?  Any disappointments?  Are there any new foods you want to try but haven't had a chance yet?

Drink Special:  Are there any foods you simply can't live without that you indulge in anyway?  Something for which you would love to find a satisfying substitute, but can't?  Are there any frustrations that you endure, despite the benefits of a paleo diet?

Happy Hour will take place from 9-10 p.m. Eastern and 6-7 p.m. Pacific, on Twitter.
